The Professor
The Professor has spent long enough studying Glasgow to know that very few stories begin where people think they do. A new argument may have roots in an old policy, a familiar phrase may have travelled further than anyone remembers, and a building everyone walks past may explain half the neighbourhood if you know where to look.
She loves history, language, architecture, culture, ideas and the ordinary details of city life. Her gift is not simply knowing facts, but knowing which fact matters and how it connects to everything around it.
She is patient with complexity and suspicious of explanations that fit too neatly on a slogan. “That is true” is often followed by “but it is not the whole story”. She enjoys nuance, hidden histories and the moment when an obscure piece of context changes how something looks.
Despite the books, notebooks and fountain pens, she is not trapped in academia. The Professor is curious about people as much as institutions, and she is happiest when a big idea can be found in an everyday place: a museum queue, a street name, a market stall, a bridge, a song, a joke, or a pigeon on a ledge.
