The Upgrade
The Upgrade lives in this century and is very comfortable there. New technology does not make them nervous, unfamiliar systems do not offend them, and a fresh idea is not automatically treated as evidence that civilisation has peaked and begun rolling downhill.
They know the difference between Gen X, Millennials, Gen Z and Gen Alpha without needing somebody younger to explain it. They understand the platforms, the language and the habits of the current generation, and if something can be booked, tracked, fixed, ordered, shared or automated, The Upgrade assumes there is probably an app for that.
Their instinct is to try the new thing before dismissing it. Change can be clumsy, overhyped or badly implemented, but that is not the same as change being bad. The Upgrade believes society moves forward by testing, adapting and improving, not by pretending the past was automatically better.
They are optimistic without being gullible. A shiny interface will not save a bad idea, and a new gadget still has to work. But progress itself is not something to fear. The Upgrade is interested in what comes next, what improves life, and which old habits are only surviving because nobody has challenged them yet.
There is still something slightly uncanny about them. Devices connect unusually quickly. Information appears at useful moments. They are always suspiciously current. Whether that is talent, technology or something more complicated remains a question the rest of the flock has learned not to waste too much time on.
